I find it difficult to believe that the drivers that support the class are being punished. I believe the 5th place car got 12.50 this weekend! I know car count is important. However, why would we bring out our cars knowing that we will get half of what we were expecting? Its like racing in Cortez a few years back when we would travel all that way only to recieve a "Free Pit Pass" card for 8th place. In fact, that card was worth $25 (still higher than the $12.50... and the winner only gets $50? This is not helping grow this class at all. Hollywood Hills pays $150 to win in the hobbys regardless of car count and Grants pays 150 (175 if 10 cars). Our hobby stock class has dwindled because of the rule changes this year. There are at least 4 cars that are sititng because of the changes from last year to this year. The rule changes were announced in order to increase car count and get the Cortez cars to come down. None of them have come down, and seldom have they ever. However, last season there were 8 cars from ABQ and 4 from Grants/Gallup that came at least once. None of those cars can come back die to the rule changes. Coupled with the 4 cars locally that cant run anymore and we would have a GREAT hobby class. I am really concerned because I feel that there are more people without money than there are with money. The hobby stock class is where we will find future drivers in the upper level divisions. THAT should be our biggest division. Then and only then will be see the upper level classes grow to where they once were at 30+ cars each. My second question is actually an extension of the above question.... Why are Nova's and Chevelle's allowed yet the older Camaro's are not. All the suspension parts are the same (they are interchangable). They are both unibodies too. We have one of each yet only one of our cars is allowed to race. All our parts are the same and the wheel base is legal. This rule change in the hobby stocks also made no sense to me since the hobby stock drivers voted unanimously to allow them last year. Please dont delete this post. the user who goes by "hollywood" had a post regarding the cut purse that was deleted as well as my response and i think that everyone wants to know what they will get paid ahead of time... The only way to get car counts up is to gaurantee the purse AND possibly see WHY all these Hobby Stocks are parked... (I feel that the rules were adjusted so that we can run both tracks, however, we cant run either now, so we will continue to travel to Grants and ABQ i guess.... PLEASE CONSIDER THESE THINGS Thanks, Tre Brewbaker (and others)

I will correct this and compensate those affected. Camaros would have to carry 500 - 600 lbs of lead to make our weight rule. It is hard to make a unibody car safe carrying that much lead. Their suspension geometry is also superior to the less expensive cars others are running. In Canyon the Camaros in the pure stocks are always the first 3 cars across the line, followed by the others distantly. Putting all our other cars at a disadvantage to add a couple of camaros doesn't seem fair. Mike

In grants, same thing. my car is legal weight wise and has very minimal weight if any added. as far as "less expensive cars" i dont think that my car (under 1000 for the entire thing) is high dollar. There are a couple out there that are much much more. Regardless, i just thought i would help give an option for increasing the hobby car counts. Gaurantee a purse and look at what is working for the tracks in our area (grants: 13 hobbys a night, hollywood hills 20-24 hobbys a night, aztec 6-8a night, cortez appx 8 a night). i am afraid that the only affordable class left is about to die...

(i work at a salvage yard, its nearly impossible to get parts for the regals etc. and the camaros are everywhere!!!! therefore supply and demand tells me that the parts are cheaper because they dont have to be shipped in, dont have to buy new, and well, there is a greater supply. The car count is down, yes. So what is done to help the car count increase? Cut the purse? I have been a huge supporter of the hobby class for a while now. Large in part because like many others, I cannot afford to buy a 2000-3000 mini stock to be competitive or a 4000 sportmod motor to finish in the top 5, or a 9000 sportmod turnkey, or a 9500 modified roller (less motor and tranny). No, I buy a $700 race ready car that can compete. The drivers voted it in last year, not me. And i feel for those who started working on building them and find that they are not allowed. Seems like if its not an IMCA class, it goes by the wayside. I am sure i will not be liked as much after these posts as I might have been in the past but I will stand my ground on this issue as I always have. There are many more drivers that feel this way... Do the math: $50 for the win.... minus drivers pit pass of $25... minus one crew pass $25... minus stands passes (all went up $2 each this year)... If you race alone, take no family, and by a miracle win the main event, you might win a couple bucks. Yes a business has to make money but at what cost... I am sure this is political suicide but i am too passionate about this sport to sit back and watch the middle to lower class be pushed out of this sport due to poor pay and nothing being done to increase the class... I always said this when i was running the track... Car count is NOT the drivers fault, it was mine. I was responsible for giving the drivers a reason to come race each weekend. I was farrrrr from perfect and dont expect anyone to be so. However, I have heard the cries and i am voicing them for those who are lost.

I don't believe it is the car, it is the driver. You can put someone who can't drive in a fast car and they can't do very well, you put a good driver in a not so fast car and usually they do well. car set up also has alot to do with it. In my opinion, (like it matters) if a car can pass tech without having to go to extremities to do it they should get to race.

Keep it simple, just the facts, ma'm, just the facts..... Paul Race Safe (-and everybody wins!) http://www.racinwithneal.com/

The less well funded at Aztec have a better chance of winning than ever. The slick track removes $18k motors from the equation and replaces them with setup and driving skill. I am not anti Hobby. By lowering the driving age to 14 I feel the class will grow.
